Races are an exciting time of the season as the athletes test their mettle against riders from across the state. Teams travel far and wide for these extremely well organized events. At the crack of dawn teams start to arrive and setup their team tents and equipment. The athletes get their inspection run in and the coaches are a buzz making sure everybody knows where they need to be and when. Due to the increasing amount of racers in the league, currently races are broken into 4 time slots. Middle School Boys/Girls kick the day off and the High School Boys/Girls round out the day. Currently there are several waves in each race to space racers out as the leagues growth has prompted two divisions of teams!
It is a long and exciting day as the athletes are either getting ready to race, racing or cheering their teammates on to victory. This is where the team part of our sport really comes to the forefront as team support of the individuals on course is critical for the athlete to get over that last hill or to finish that last lap strong. Parents are encouraged to cheer on their athletes and the rest of the team. The day is rounded out by everybody pitching in for course teardown and finally the awards are handed out to the top finishers in each catagory.
The races form lifetime memories for the team and the athletes not to mention the coaches and parents! NICA and the MN League do a super job organizing these fun events. Come cheer on the Tigers at a race someday!!
